About Julie D. aka :

Once a reading teacher, always a reader. No longer on the public school payroll, I read and love both kidlit and books written for adults. This book is #81 for 2026. Find me on Bluesky at:

What I liked about the book:

I like that it’s a middle grade mystery featuring a Black girl, Black friendships and family, offering Black history and culture as part of the mystery. It’s about a girl coping with loss and discovering safety in her future, too. I didn’t know anything about ghost tours and love that the action in this is based on a real house/square (and history) in Savannah GA. I also love the depth of the family love. By purchasing this and/or borrowing it from the library, I’m showing that I want more of this kind of work.

How I discovered this book:

I read about this in Betsy Bird aka ’s Blog, A Fuse8 Production. I’ve read Tiffany D. Jackson before, so I also follow her on Threads and Instagram @writeinbk. Because I like her work, sometimes I just type in her name at my local bookstore to see if anything new is in the future so I can preorder! I was able to preorder this, and know how important preorders are for a book’s success.
