What I liked about the book:

The "reverse invasion" premise. Love that the protagonist has claimed since childhood that she's an alien disguised as a human being (instead of trying to hide it), and that the armada is coming to get her.

Love the diverse characters, character dynamics, and found family.

Especially loved the thought-provoking questions about "otherness" and belonging.

How I discovered the book:

I've been a longtime fan of the author (Seanan McGuire; Mira Grant is her horror pen name) but can't keep up with all of Seanan's wonderful book news.

I follow on Bluesky, however, and happened to see one of her posts:

Seanan McGuire's avatar

As we approach the twenty-first day of the month of September, I urge you all the remember the importance of being prepared for the alien plant invasion, which will be arriving any day. You were warned.

A thorny vine wraps around the Earth, blood red at the tips and menacing. The text reads YOU WERE WARNED | OVERGROWTH | MIRA GRANT.

I had assumed it was a new book, but found out that the title was already out! I'm glad that Seanan posted the eye-catching cover image along with her post.

Takeaways for book creators: It's worth posting when new versions of your book come out. Including a cover image, especially if it's a good image, will attract even more attention.
